Orbitalis

Bent wood chair

Professor: Francesco Fumelli

Type: group

Year: 2022

Orbitalis is a seat inspired by celestial orbits and the harmonious movement of bodies in space.

Its design symbolically interprets this cosmic balance through a circular wooden ring that serves as the backrest, evoking a continuous path with no beginning or end. The steel stem, on the other hand, becomes the connection between the earthly and celestial worlds, representing a dialogue between matter and lightness.

Crafted with high-quality materials, the chair combines natural and industrial elements in a balance of forms and sensations. The teak wood backrest, both durable and refined, merges with an ebony wood base chosen for its elegance and ergonomic shaping that ensures comfort and support. The dark stainless-steel stem gives the structure solidity and stability, providing a safe and lasting seating experience.

The contrast between wood and steel creates a visual dialogue between the organic beauty of nature and the precision of human geometry, inviting those who sit to experience a moment of balance between matter and space.

From a construction standpoint, the backrest is assembled using the lamello joint technique, which allows for clean and strong connections without visible elements. The ergonomic shape of the seat naturally adapts to the body, while a precisely welded and milled steel cross, positioned beneath the base, ensures support and structural rigidity. All components are secured with screws, guaranteeing stability even during prolonged use.
